At this years Windsurf Worldcup at the island Sylt in northern Germany, there were quite a few surprises and it ended with a proper storm,- can't get better...

First of all, a little photogallery of the last 2 days, the wave-discipline:

The Event was a Grand Slam, that means it was Wave Men and Woman, Slalom and Freestyle in 10 days of competition. It was the last and biggest event of the year - and the world champion titles are given away in Sylt every year.

The conditions in Sylt are always pretty rough - sometimes you have to pass meter high shorebreak to get out. Freestyle was started at relatively light wind, most competitors were on 5,2 sails and about 100 liter boards - it was pretty hard to get out through the shorebreak as there was less wind on the inside...

The surprising winner of the Freestyle eliminations was Taty Frans from Bonaire!! - he was just really good in those conditions and could beat his friend Kiri Thode who ended up at the second place. Tonky Frans on third and Gollito Estredo the old and new world champion on fourth place.

I ended up at 9th place and could get myself to the 12th place overall for 2009 - pretty nice for the fact that I didn't train that much this year as we were working a lot on the Tricktionary DVD... very happy about that result...

The Wave contest has seen some surprises too!! - Alex Mussolini from Spain won the Double Elimination in Waves!! His first ever Worldcup 1st place!
Klaas Voget went up through the whole double elimination - won 8 heats until he ended up at the 2nd place! Great action...
Antoine Albeau poofed he's also a great sailor in Waves and went up to the 3rd place in the single elimination - being kicked to the 4th in the double...

Wave Women Sylt 2009 was dominated again by the Moreno Twins.
Eventranking 2009 Sylt Wave Women:

2. Daida Ruano Moreno (E 64)
3. Nayra Alonso (E 4)
4. Karin Jaggi (Z 14)

Because of a tie, the ladies had to go out and decide the overall ranking in heats - Iballa against Daida and Karin against Nayra.
