hi. i have a problem understanding the aerial jibe. as far as i know, it is the slam jibe but jumped. so for the slam jibe, the tricktionary II says to get out of the front footstrap when you are around, after having stabilised. but when should you do this in an aerial jibe?
i can't see it in the video clearly, so i let you have a look:
www.continentseven.com/windsurfmove17.html
i think it is much earlier, while jumping...
thanks for helping

Hi,

Well - You are right, we should have mentioned the Aerial Jibe. - but we did not acutally forget about it, but - especially if you see the video on the link you posted - you can see that it is almost the same as a Willy skipper.

The Aerial Jibe is not really necessary, in my opinion, it even blocks your learning process towards the Willy Skipper by teaching you to lean back "too much".

I can/will provide a document about the Aerial Jibe if this is wanted by customers!

For the timing:
Please see the Willy Skipper in the Tricktionary. There is the foot technique and explanation of when your foot should move out of the strap.

Aerial Jibe - it goes like this:

- sail across the wind, unhook and place your back foot out of the strap, just behind it.

- steer upwind by footsteering and get low, ready to jump

- Use a small ramp to take off and jump, lean back, kicking the board towards the wind with your back foot. Keep your front foot in the strap as long as possible, to control the board in the air

- approximately at half of the board-rotation, your front foot should slide out of the strap automatically and should be placed just behind.

- land with your old back foot behind the mast foot and sheet in the sail to get upright.

- most of the time you will land on your ass and do kind of a clew first waterstart (the aerial jibe Chris is doing in the posted video is not really the typical Aerial Jibe)

--> But my suggestion:
Try and learn the Willy Skipper right away:

- don't go to fast, but across the wind.
- get upright, over the board and take your back foot out of the strap, just behind it
- jump and kick the board towards the wind, guide it in a semicircle around the mastfoot
- always stay upright over the board with the sail constantly under pressure (do not lean back!)
- slide out of the strap after half of the rotation and place the foot just between front and back footstraps
- land with your old back foot on the nose, in front of the mastfoot
- wait till you slowed down and flip the sail

All the best
Rossi
