Hi Rossi,
My book just arrived today! It looks terrific and I'm currently enjoying the wave riding section.

I noticed one minor translation glitch (website and book) about the DVD:

"All the moves you find in the book are banned on DVD as well!"

In English, "banned" means "not allowed".

I'd suggest these alternatives:

All the moves you find in the book are on the DVD as well!

or

All the moves you find in the book are described on the DVD as well!

I also received the new Tricktionary yesterday. It came earlier than I expected.

I just wanted to say: GREAT JOB. There are a lot of very helpful hints for old and new moves and i really appreciate the underlying system for learning them.

great job, i like this book!
with all the new manoeuvers but also lots of hints for classic moves.
this is complete.

two things to criticise:
where is the aerial jibe? i know it's the slam jibe but jumped... you should at least have mentioned it.

power jibe: you should mention when to lock out the harness

so if i should find other things i'll let you know... but once again: great job.

I have to congratulate you. The tricktionary 2 book is the windsurfing bible! I received it a month ago and I´ve already improved loads, nailed the forward loop that I´ve been struggeling with for years...

A really good job with the book and a great way of explaining the tricks methodically.

I´ve recommended it to all my friends here in sweden and posted a thread in THE website here in sweden www.steffo.nu where i recommend it strongly.

Hi Rossi, I'm a beginner from Spain and I like the Tricktionary II a lot, I think it will be a great help to enhance my skills. Nayra Alonso did a great translating job, it sounds like very natural Spanish. The only minor "but" I have is that it has perhaps too many little errata (misspelled or extra words mainly). Like I said it's a minor problem and doesn't in the least affect the usefulness of the book. Congratulations!

trictionary 2 is a incomplete windsurf guide. For example there is not only sideshore frontside waveriding but also onshore frontside waveriding many styles techniques short radius long radius side on off the lip high backloop low backloop high wind technique in many moves hands position in the boom ..........It presents back side waveriding and it shows mostly frontside wave riding levi in maui conditions !!!!!!!!! world is not maui different technique in jumps sideshore and in onshore (kostner sylt)It says it includes many hours dvd more than 33445 moves but it s very incomplete In my opininion it is NOT WORTH it s money Nice try but could be 1000 times better

We are always open for critics - but please be sure we did our best to make the Tricktionary the most complete windsurfing bible ever.

So, George, did you buy the Tricktionary book + DVD and are you not happy with it?


Ok, so for your critics:

- Windsurfing is not just wavesailing, nor just jumping. There must be also space for beginners, intermediates, advanced sailors, freestylers, freeriders,...

- Yes you are right, the Tricktionary 2 and the DVD are incomplete if you see it that way.
We could extend the book with 300 pages more and make it a 6 DVD collection, that's what would be needed to cover what you want to have.

Be sure that we considered all possibilities, but it's just not possible to include all manoeuvre variations, style variations, high, low jumps, short, long radius, strong, light wind, choppy, less choppy, each manoeuvre on both tacks....

The wave part in the Tricktionary 2 is 80 pages long, it contains all the most important tipps and tricks that you need to learn those moves... it got a full DVD in the Tricktionary 3DVD collection!

The first half of the book contains a beginner part and planing as well as non planing manoeuvres that everybody can try and learn.

Most of the newest Freestyle jumping and sliding manoeuvres are also in book and on DVD.

The DVD contains 150 manoeuvres, the book even slightly more.

For sure, there will never be a 100% perfect windsurfing book or DVD.
BUT most people like our book and DVD so far and are very happy with the most complete windsurfing bible up to date!

Really not want to act arrogant, but IS there a better, more complete windsurfing guide out there that you know?


If you really are unhappy with the book and/or the DVD, please send me an email and let me know where you bought it, we'll just take it back then.

Or give it away as a Christmas present... i am sure every windsurfer, no matter what level, will be very happy about it!!

I agree that there is nothing out there in one about windsurfing There is only spare in magazines and internet . It s a nice try but not enough for me to spend 80 E I did nt try to copy DVD to support such attempts and if this a start that could bring something much better in the future with pleasant i give this money . I disagree that could not make something more extended and could not fit more than 3 dvd s (make wave or freestyle or beginner edition)
If my opinion is not serious then why you agree is incomplete .Sorry this is my opinion and i am sorry to post it here.

I do not say your opinion is not serious, i was just not sure that this was a serious post - as it seems that you do not want it to be good...
So did you try to see and learn with the Tricktionary book+DVD?? I mean it is easy to say it's not good if you didn't see it in detail...


Please consider the fact that there are limits such as page-numbers and DVD-numbers.

The book has 292 pages, if it would have 500 pages, it will be much more expensive as the printing costs will be much higher and a lot heavier for shipping.

The DVD consists of 3 Double Layer DVD's - that is 24GB/600min in really great quality.
If we would extend it to 6 DVD's, it would be much more expensive!

The idea of the Tricktionary is, to have the BIBLE for Windsurfing available for everybody in the world. I guess it's the only book since the 80's windsurfing-hype, that is available in 6 languages!!

Of course we could split the DVD's, but that makes no difference, EXCEPT that you as a customer can specialize and "just" buy the Wave DVD for example. But that is NOT the main idea of the Tricktionary.
--> First of all it is most important that windsurfers of all levels and from all around the world have a guide to learn and improve their windsurfing!


I guess it is possible to write a book just about the Powerjibe,... or spend a whole DVD with many hours just with talking about waveriding... you might find other products that do that,... our Tricktionary is ment to be as complete and widely spread as possible.


We will definitely consider your thoughts and of course we are working on future projects.
However, the DVD and the book will be up to date for quite some more time as it just came out...

Please - it is not an attempt to make something special for windsurfers. Reviews and sales numbers confirm that it IS something special - The Windsurfing Bible!


It's like with the Kite and Windsurfing Guide Europe / World - have you seen it??? - check it out - it is far from being complete, as there is no such thing as a COMPLETE guide for the world of windsurfing - BUT if you want to find a windsurfing or kitespot, this is the BEST and most complete book EVER!

I started the windsurf a few years ago, so i did not spend 10 years on it, moreover my level is not very high.

But i like a lot windsurf stuff so i search a lot by internet, web sites, magazines, etc..

and with no doubt at all... Tricktionary is the best book and the best dvd for learning i never found !

It is really well explained, with very good pictures, very detailed, blablabla..

Conclusion : I recommend to everyone.

so mein freundchen jetzt werd ich des ganze mal lieber in Deutsch schreiben weil es mir "NOT WORTH" ist, das ganze ins englische zu übersetzen! Eigentlich bist es nicht mal wert, dass ich mich hier hinsetze und zum wiederholten male probiere das ganze plausiebel zu erklären. Du bist mal wieder einer von denen, die von mir gar keine DVD bekommen würden. Hast wohl zu viel Ahoibrause abbekommen. Mal ein paar Fakten für dich, mit denen dich auch nicht besser auskennen wirst.

1. Eine DVD ist von ihrer Grösse her beschränkt! Sprich man kann nicht mehr drauf packen wie raufpasst. Um das ganze auch für dich verständlich zu machen. Wenn du zum Windsurfen mit dem Auto fährst, dann kannst den 50 liter Tank auch nicht mit 70 Liter befüllen ...

2. Die DVD nicht nur durch ihr Datenvolumen beschränkt ist sondern auch von ihrer Programmierbarkeit. Es können einfach keine 1000 Menüs gemacht werde. Aber davon wirst du ja als Konsument sicher bescheid wissen...

3. Die DVD's in Deutsch und Englischem Ton sind. Und jetzt sag mir mal bitte wo es das sonst noch gibt?

4. 6 Untertitelspuren für Englsich, Deutsch, Spanisch, Französisch, Italienisch und Russisch... Wo bitte hats und wirds sowas nochmal geben?? Ich Zahl dir 1000 Euro wenn mir ein vergleichbares Produkt zeigen kannst!

5. Der Preis weit über 50% im Verhältnis billiger ist wie jedes andere vergleichbare Produkt. Wenn man nur vom Preis ausgeht und nicht vom Inhalt! Aber für dich hat die Beginner to Wavesailor mit 35.90 sicher mehr sinn. Sowas ist ja dann doch billiger...???? (nur in englisch, keine Untertitel, kein motion tracking usw. und natürlich in PAL...)

6. Vom Inhalt keine andere WindsurflehrDVD da mithalten kann und jemals mithalten wird können. Es wird sich einfach keiner mehr diese Arbeit antun. Vor allem nicht wenns dann so Idioten gibt die einfach nicht wissen was alles hinter so einem projekt steckt.

7. Ich den ganzen Windsurfmarkt langsam einfach lächerlich finde, da jeder sagt, dass nicht mal 20 € für eine LehrDVD zu teuer sind. Aber jeder die 50 Euro in den Sprit und die Maut steckt um dann 2 Stunden am Wasser zu stehen... und im Winter um tausende Euro in den Urlaub fliegen und sich dort um wieder hunderte euro das Material mietet und zu Hause 2-3 Bretter und 5-6 Segel mit Masten und Zubehör rumliegen hat.

8. Wie soll eine LehrDVD jemals komplett sein wenn Monatlich neue Manöver entwickelt werden?

9. Warum wohl nicht weiter ins Detail gegangen wird für bestimmte Disziplinen? Weils einfach keinen Sinn macht sich für dich nochmal hin zu setzen und noch eine DVD zu machen wo genauer auf gewisse Dinge eingegangen wird, wenn für dich sowieso zu teuer ist!

10. Du wohl glaubst, wenn auf den anderen LehrDVDs HD drauf steht die dann auch in HD sind...

11. Welcher Anbieter PAL und NTSC auf den markt bringt??? Gibts ja immer nur die NTSC version weils ja Billilger ist nur 1 mal zu produzieren...


Zu dir kann ich einfach nur noch sagen einfach ein anderes Produkt kaufen oder selber besser machen. Oder du suchst dir ein Onlinewindsurfmagazin in dem 1000 von selbstgefilmten Videos verlinkt werden. Da bekommst dann in schlechter Qualität wohl das zu sehen was du dir unter einer LehrDVD vorstellst.

Also wenn schon was kritisieren willst, dann lass hören. Ich hör hier nur an lauwarmen Kinderfurz!

I agree with pretty much everything you say. Tricktionary is great, more complete than anything else I've seen, and definitely worth it's price. However, I would not completely ignore the criticism, even if it was presented in a rather unfortunate way. There's always room for improvement, and Rossi is probably already planning the next version, or some other thing that helps us surf better and with more fun.

I'm mostly a flatwater surfer, so I have not even looked at the wave section closely (will certainly do so before going to Maui in May, though!). Ignorant as I am, I still believe that more discussion of different conditions could improve the book. And for those of us not living on Maui or Sylt, more light wind stuff could be added, like rail rides, lee side back-to-sail, Andy Brandt's sail chi, Caesar Finies' sail tricks, ...

Space certainly is an issue, although less so in the book. But if something needs to be cut - do we really need Diablo (one-handed, ...) variations of every move? Ok, I won't be trying them for years. But maybe better surfers can get the idea how to do the Diablo (...) variation of trick #7 after doing it for tricks #1-6? Don't get me wrong - I like looking at the stuff. But if something needs to be cut to put something else in, I don't think the loss would be too tragic.

We need to know what you would like to see in the book / on the DVD to be able to do it !

I certainly take every suggestion or critic into consideration - on the other hand, sometimes there are limitations such as space, time, the conditions at the shootings,...
That's an explanation for some of Georges points... hope it didn't sound like i wouldn't want to do anything... it's just not possible to change things fast...

We won't be able to do everything and it will take some more time.

Before there will be a new version of the Tricktionary book or DVD, we'll have some other goodies coming up this year (2010)!
So no worries, your books/dvd's will be valid for quite some more time!

Producing, printing and publishing books or DVD's is a huge amount of work and costs lot of money, especially if you are only 2-3 persons and do everything yourself...


However, as said, PLEASE everybody who likes the book, feel free to also tell us what you don't like so much or what you would change, or which moves you'd like to be gone more in detail...
We need this feedback to improve!!

About the diablo-variations and so on: Check the book, mostly, variations are on one page with other variations to save space, texts are pretty short...
Also we kept these clips on the DVD shorter to save space and have more room for the more common moves.

The Tricktionary should be there for ALL levels and it is somehow a compendium of windsurfing manoeuvres,... we tried to make it as complete as possible, so the variations can't be forgotten...

I like to hear this because despite your work is very good there is much much more to improve For example i like very much the way you write about front loop how to beat fear (try under control catapelt) a move that many windsurfers after 10 - 15 years do not attemp It is very important for others to see hands movement on the boom (you can use gopro too and many you can do) or in which move they can have bad accident for example ponch shove it push loop (brake teeth) and how to avoid them by learning right step by step etc etc
I bought by the very first book and dvd and many people who have the bug are hangry for
We will support such attemps

One bad message and the Forum is still running again.

I will never say the DVD is perfect. There is always something to improve. And without critics there will be nothing to improve. But it makes no sence to say we wanna see more on the DVDs but wanna pay less money for it.

For sure the Tricktionary is open mindet for new critics and we wanna try to include everything in new products.

But its not always easy when you have a dream to realise them.
A short example. I got asekd why there is just english and german audio and no spanish or russian. The sentences in russian are different then in german. so there will be a problem to explain something when you cant see it on the screen... maybe it helps to understand that sometimes its easy to think about but hard to realise it...

And i will never get mad when someone is sending serious critics.
