Hi,

Would be good to see a video of your grubbies...so it would be easier to see the mistake...

But as you describe, your problem is one of the most common in the Grubby.

Please see this image:

Here you can see me sliding backwards in the Grubby. The wind is from the left side of the picture.
The most important thing here - and that is your mistake - is, to extend your sail arm and your back leg to push against the pressure in the sail.
This way you can stay over the board and even make the board slide better...

So your mistake is, that you probably are not pushing against the sail when sliding backwards.

Look in the Tricktionary there you can see it on the sequence.

Jump, get the nose into the water, and as soon as the clew is through the wind, extend your back leg and sail arm (and keep mast arm + front leg bent) and stay over the board.
You will keep on sliding, now wait with sheeting in the sail until you rotated almost fully around... then sheet in... if you do that good, the grubby is a good move to plane through!

If you want, send a video of your Grubby crash and i can tell you if that is it...but most probably it is...

all the best from Austria
